Vacating…..

It was gonna take him easily another 4 hours to complete all the procedures and come out. They weren’t ready to wait that long. Anyways his time had run out and he has no choice but vacate now. What difference is a few hours gonna make? They went in got all his stuff out; bags, clothes, pillows, flask, walking stick etc. His wife and daughter sat huddled on a bench outside the room tears rolling down their eyes probably wondering what they should/could have done to avoid the situation they were in. But I’m sure he knows that they tried their best.

Even if it’s only for a short while he’s probably happy that he gets to go home now. It’s been a month or so since he’s been staying out. He knows at best he’d get to spend a couple of hours at home to meet up with family and friends. After that it’s time to move on, on to the final leg of his long journey. To the other world!

May his soul rest in peace!

Random Thoughts #1

Everyone uses internet these days. If I ask you to name two items that consume most of your internet bandwidth, I'm sure the answers would be:

  1. Audio
  2. Video

Now let's forget internet for a second and consider any of the DTH providers; Dish-TV, Tata Sky, Reliance Big TV etc. All of them transmit live audio video spread across 100 of channels seamlessly to your living rooms. On top of it it’s wireless! You never have to wait for a program to download before you can watch them. Come on, poor Federer didn’t even have the option to run for cover when Nadal creamed his a$$. Millions across the globe saw him getting creamed live even before he got to say Ouch!

Question: How is it possible to transmit seamless audio/video over DTH but we have to wait ages to download/stream audio or video file over a broadband internet connection?

Isn’t there any way to use the same DTH technology for internet too?

P.S: I have not done any research on this topic yet. I am just penning down a thought that came to my mind. Might turn out to be utter bullshit for all I know (or care).

P.P.S: If anyone ends up implementing this, 60% of the royalty fee is mine (remember 60% planning and 40% implementation wala funda?)!

XP Vs Ubuntu

My Windows XP is slowly dying. It started by giving subtle hints by refusing to shut down properly. I've been doing my share of ignoring those subtle hints. Now XP says enough is enough and is attacking me with infamous Blue screen of death. Everytime i log in the blue screen appears within 5 mins. I got to try to copy all the required data from C drive to D and then install windows again. The problem in installing windows again would be that Windows doesn't give a damn about whether the machine is running other Operating Systems too. It just overwrites the Master Boot Record and ignores all other OS', in my case Ubuntu. Now I need to learn how to get grub working again once i re-install windows XP. Have been doing a lot of reading on that as well. From what I've read it's doesn't look too tough. Again me being the paranoid me, wouldn't be fully convinced unless I actually try it out.

Let's see.... Wish me luck!

Songs to pick

I suddenly have loads of free time at hand. Hence I'm trying to start doing of a lot things that I have been keeping aside for quite some time like

  1. Learn how to use Ubuntu properly
  2. Pick up new songs on the guitar
  3. Play more Football
  4. Reading
  5. PS2

I've been trying to pick up some new songs on the guitar. A few to mention:

  1. Soldier of Fortune - Deep Purple
  2. When a Blind Man Cries - Deep Purple
  3. Under the Bridge - RHCP
  4. Road Trippin - RHCP
  5. Dani California - RCHP
  6. Lyla - Oasis
  7. Behind Blue Eyes - The Who
  8. Last Kiss - Pearl Jam
  9. Don't Look Back in Anger - Oasis
Not bad eh!!

Compiz/Beryl on Ubuntu

I've been trying to install Beryl on Ubuntu. I have been doing quite a bit of reading on this finally it looks as though Beryl is way better that Compiz for poor souls like me who doesn't have a high-end graphics card. (Would let you guys know how true this actually is.....)

I guess the two links below should really come in handy.
